Baseball – Womens

Posted in Baseball, Sport on April 18, 2009 by johno60

Baseball, I assume it got its name from the bases (4) the players have to run around and a ball that is used, it could have just as easily been called Batball.

So, what’s needed? Lets start with a ball

© We need one of those

…and where are those bases I was talking about? Ah! there’s one.

img_6751-base

© Got your bases covered?

That ball looks like it could hurt, some sort of padding wouldn’t go astray. Anyone got some?

Ah, that’s looks better, what? only one person wears this? You throw the ball at them? Not very friendly if you ask me.

So, who’s the one that throws the ball at you?
Oh, geez, they get quite a bit of a wind-up don’t they!

© Let one fly!

OK, so let me see if I get this straight. You throw a small ball at a padded up person? Where does the bat come into it?

Anyone seen a bat around the place… Anyone??
Oh, look, there’s one.

© This is a bat

Hmm, OK, we have a bat, swung by a person at a small object hurtling at great pace, do they get even anywhere near it?

This one looks like she might connect

Hmm, easier than I thought, here’s another

If you hit the ball like above and manage to run around all the bases and get back before the ball is returned, it’s called a Home Run, this is one player who’s very sure of herself.

If you manage that, then you’re likely to be greeted with a sea of “high fives”

Time is getting away and starting to get dark, better finish up soon or there’ll be Bats of a different kind.

Football (otherwise known as Soccer)

Posted in Football (FA), Soccer, Sport on April 6, 2009 by johno60

For the non initiated, Football (Soccer) requires the use of feet to pass the ball. Of course, other parts of the body can be used, such as the head, chest (to control) even the upper leg has been used to control the ball, so as to ultimately pass with the feet. Hands are off limits (except for the Goalkeeper)

There are many clashes when a contest takes place, two feet going for the same ball, or a mid-air contest to win the ball with the head. Rarely do they mix them up, like below, feet should not be tackling the head.

How many sports do I have to do?

Posted in Bike, Running, Sport, Swimming on April 5, 2009 by johno60

Sports in general require some aspect of physical work, such as swimming, running or even riding a bike, but what if you had to combine all three? Triathlons are one such beast.

There is the swim leg, with all those thrashing arms and legs, it said to be like trying to stay afloat in a tumble dry washing machine.

© Careful you don’t poke my eye out!

After emerging out of the icy water (well, it certainly isn’t the same temperature as your bath tub) it’s time to wander over to the racks and pick up your “wheels” (Getting out of the water first is a bit like getting out of school a few minutes early so you have time to get to the bike rack and start peddling before the hordes bear down on you).

With minimal skin coverage, these brave guys and gals set off on a determined course over many kilometers, knowing that coming off the bike, the bitumen is like a cheese grater on the human skin, but still they push on, a blur as they weave their way through the bike leg.

© Bike Leg? It’s all a blur to me

If you’ve managed to keep the heart pumping, then comes the last leg, the Run Stage, which by now your legs might have a slight jelly feel to them.

So why do they put themselves through this torture? I’m guessing two things, first they love the competition of pitting themselves against competitors and time and second, because they just love the pain.

Is that what they want?

Basketball – How many hands?

How many hands does it take to play basketball?

The more the merrier it looks like.

Futsal – Padded and Protected

Kind of like Indoor Soccer, without the walls to play the ball off and a heavier ball with very little bounce.

Let The Games Begin

Posted in Sport on February 23, 2009 by johno60

Well, maybe not the Games, but more like the posting of sports images, and as the byline says …covering any available sport.

Well, that’s what it says and that’s what I like to do, when I get the opportunity.

These sports photos are my personal property and NOT for general use. If you see something you want to use, contact me first and I’ll see what I can do.

I hope you enjoy what you see, as much as I have bringing them to you, please leave a comment.
